The Komodor dates back to
the 11th Century when its ancestors, primitive Asian dogs, were brought to Hungry
by the Magyar nomads. It is the largest of all the Hungarian sheepdogs. It has
also been used as a guard dog.
The Komodor is an outside
dog that requires lots of running room and is best suited to colder climates.
It makes a good, loyal family dog, but early socialization training is recommended
or it can become over protective as well as lean towards extreme independence.
It has an average overall intelligence rating.
The Komodor has one of the
most unique coats of fur, which requires a high degree of maintenance. Its coat
consist of long chord-like strands of inter twinned hair that easily become
matted and tangled. The chords or hair must be trained as a puppy, and after
a bath plan on 4-8 hours of blow drying. The chords must be hand separated on
an on-going basis. And add to this white colored fur as its standard color.
The Komodor reaches a height
of 25 inches and can weigh up to 150 pounds.
