The Kuvasz is of Hungarian
descent, and is believed to have come to Hungry by way of nomad Turkish shepherds
in the 12th Century. Early socialization is highly recommended or this loyal,
hyper- protective breed can become extremely alarmed and aggressive towards
strangers.
The Kuvasz can adapt to
indoor or out door living, but prefers cool, outdoor living. It has a high overall
intelligence rating, along with excellent problem solving skills, and an average
ability to learn and obey commands. This breed makes a loyal, loving family
dog , but is marginal around small children.
The Kuvasz has a coat of
stiff, white, wavy, medium length hair that does shed and requires a regular
weekly grooming. This breed has exceptional stamina, able to keep up a strong
gait for 20 minutes. This beautiful dog with its long head and floppy ears reaches
a height of 26 inches and weighs up to 110 pounds.
