Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever originates in 17th Century Britain, and later found its way to Newfoundland by way of English soldiers. It is a descendent of the Saint-Johns. it is one of the top five breeds in the US, due in part to its people friendly nature, trainability, hunting skills and expertise in and around water. It is also exceptional at drug detection, and for use as a seeing eye dog.

The Labrador Retriever makes a fantastic family pet that is protective and loving around children. It can adapt to either indoor or outdoor living, but its true home is outdoors where it can run, play and hunt. It has a high overall intelligence rating, along with above average problem solving skills, and an excellent ability to learn and obey commands.

The Labrador Retriever has a coat of short, dense hair that is black, dark brown, or yellow in color. It does shed and requires a good weekly brushing. This breed with its “soft touch” for retrieving game and hardy nature grows to a height of 25 inches and weighs up to 75 pounds.
