The Lhasa Apso originated in 7th Century Tibet, China, where it held an esteemed position in the monasteries and temples as a guard dog. Due to its acute sense of hearing it could detect intruders as well as an impending avalanche. It was also given as a gift to other imperial courts in China to foster good fortune.
The Lhasa Apso prefers indoor living where it can be “king of the roost”. It makes a good companion, but does not mix well with children.
