Löwchen

The Lowchen originated in 15th Century France where it was a prized court dog of the nobles. It was also used as a watchdog in some palaces and monasteries. It is known for its moodiness, and snarling spats toward strangers that venture too close, or invade its space. In spite of this, the Lowchen is extremely loyal to its master or family.

The Lowchen is strictly an indoor pet that requires some daily exercise. It makes a good companion and guard dog, but mixes poorly with small children. It is slow to mature, probably due in part to its stubborn nature.

The Lowchen has a coat of silky, long hair with an abundance of waves. It does shed and requires a regular weekly grooming, and an occasional clipping. It coat covers an array of possible color combinations from white and black to golden brown. This calm, high spirited breed with its entertaining “clownish” streak reaches a height of 13 inches and weighs up to 18 pounds.
