The Norwich Terrier originated during the 1800’s as a working terrier of Eas Anglia. It was a cross between the Bull Terrier, Irish Terrier and the Bedlingtons. It is very similar to the Norwalk Terrier except for the ears. The Norwich Terrier has erect ears and the Norwalk Terrier has ears that droop.
The Norwich Terrier makes a fine companion dog or family pet, mixing well with children. It can adapt to indoor or outdoor living, but does need regular daily exercise. With its charming, friendly nature it is a joy to have around with still another plus-it doesn’t bark as much as most other terriers. It has been rated above average in overall intelligence, average at problem solving, and average at learning and obeying commands.
The Norwich Terrier has a coat of hard, wiry fur that does shed and needs stripping; and the tail needs docking. Its colors are red, wheat, blond, black or grey. This highly active dog with its wedge shaped snot reaches a height of 10 inches and weighs 11-12 pounds.
