Pug

The Pug, a Chinese breed called “Pai”, was brought to Holland by Dutch sailors who were fascinated by this fierce looking little dog. It is theorized that the Pug is a descendant of the Pekingese. The name ” Pug”, coined by the English, was indicative of its small, compact size.

The Pug is an indoor dog that demands little of its family or master. Laid-back, good natured and easy to train this breed makes a wonderful pet that mixes well with children. It has an above average intelligence rating, along with being above average at solving problems and average at learning and obeying commands. One of its favorite past times is swimming.

The Pug has a coat of smooth, short hair that does shed, but needs only minimal maintenance. It has colorings of fawn, beige, black, silver or apricot accented by a black mask-like face. This brave, attentive dog with its large animated eyes grows to a height of 11 inches and weighs around 18 pounds.
