The Swedish Vallhund originated from Sweden many centuries ago. It is a descendant of the ancient Spitz breeds. It was a favorite of the Vikings who relied up them to watch and protect their herds and homes. Later on they were used as cattle dogs and rodent hunters. The breed was responsible for creating the Welsh Corgi, being crossed with local dogs of the region.
The Swedish Valllhund adapts very well to indoor or outdoor living, but does have a high energy level that requires lots of time to run and play. It can make a good pet if it is trained early and consistently. It does well around people(including children), but can be aggressive towards other dogs. It has an above average overall intelligence rating, above average problem solving skills, and an above average ability to learn and obey commands.
The Swedish Vallhund has a coat of medium length, thick, wiry hair that is grey/white, blue/white, brindle and reddish in color. This stocky breed with its intense nature weighs up to 35 pounds and grows to a height of 16 inches.
