The Welsh Corgi Pembroke
originates from dogs brought to Wales by the Celts over 3000 years ago. And
a later descendant of the Swedish Vallhunds that were companions to the Vikings
who brought them to England as they were plundering its coast. It is also believed
to possibly be a cross between the Schipperke and Pomeranian.
The Welsh Corgi Pembroke
is able to adapt to indoor or outdoor living, and due to its high energy level
needs a place to run. It is considered a herding/working dog that makes a good
pet that is assertive yet gentle around children. It has a high overall intelligence
rating, excellent problem solving skills, and an excellent ability to learn
and obey commands.
The Welsh Corgi Pembroke
has a coat of medium length, straight, harsh fur that does shed and needs an
occasional brushing. The tail is docked. Its colorings are red, black/tan, and
any combination of these colors with white markings. This hefty breed with its
short legs and happy demeanor reaches a height of 12 inches and weights around
26 pounds.
