Bernese Mountain Dog


The Bernese Mountain Dog breed's origin goes back 20000 years to Rome's invasion of Helveria, Switzerland. By the Middle Ages they were used by the Berne mountain folks as draft dogs for pulling milk carts along winding, rough paths to the local cheese maker. Their hearty nature allowed them to withstand the severe weather in the Alps.

The Bernese Mountain Dog breed with it's happy, gentle nature makes for a fun pet that responds well around children. It is easily trained with above average intelligence, problem solving ability and response to commands.

 The Bernese Mountain Dog breed needs regular exercise and fares best in cooler outdoor climates.The Burnese Mountain Dog breed's coat is medium length, smooth, and wavy or straight. Its color is black with reddish brown or white patches on its legs and cheeks.

The Bernese Mountain Dog breed, with its powerful head and broad chest, reaches a height of 27 inches and weighs 80-100 pounds.
