The Black Russian Terrier dog breed was developed after WWII by the Russians, who were looking for a breed that could herd and watch flocks, as well as hunt. The Giant Schnauzwers breed was crossed with Airedales and Rottweilers to get the Black Russian Terrier dog breed.

The Black Russian Terrier dog breed is loyal to its master, but is instinctively reactive and has the potential of being quite ferocious. In spite of this quality they make a suitable family pet with early socialization recommended.

The Black Russian Terrier dog breed has a coat of 2-4 inch coarse, wiry, dense fur that has little shedding. Their coloring can be black, or black with a mixture of gray, along with a docked tail. It requires regular grooming and daily exercise.
