Crossing various breeds of English Sheepdogs during the Middle Ages created the Border Collie dog breed. It has always been a favorite of nobility, but had its primary skills utilized to their full extent by the sheep breeders of Scotland and England. They were so impressed with its courage and endurance as well as its ability to control a herd that the Border Collie dog breed (the sheep breeders lived in the "border"lands of Scotland and England) became their breed of choice.
The Border Collie dog breed is very energetic and needs to have an ongoing outlet for this energy- with lots of daily exercise. Training is recommended, as it does need some socialization, but responds well to training as well as being suitable for children.
