The Bull Terrier originated in Great Britain, a cross between the White English Terrier and a possible combination of Dalmatian, Greyhound and/or Pointer. The breed is a bit of a mystery since its creator, Mr. Hicks, always refused to reveal the exact combination of breeds he used. The breed got a real resurgence of popularity with its presence on the TV show “Hogan’s Heroes” where the Bull Terrier was the prisoners mascot.
The Bull Terrier is a very loyal dog, staying close to its owners. It makes a fine pet with a long suit in patience around children. It has above average intelligence, average problem solving ability, and average ability to learn and obey commands. There is a need for some early training:blends well with people, but aggressive with other animals.
The Bull Terrier has a coat of smooth, short hair that is pure white or black, red, tricolor providing white is the main color. It does shed, but needs a minimum of grooming.
The Bull Terrier with its long, oval head and superb athletic build weighs up to 60 pounds and reaches a height of 22 inches.
