The Saint Bernard was created in the 1700’s by monks of the Saint Bernard’s order who lived high in the Alps of Switzerland. It is a descendant of the Mastiff, Great Dane and Bloodhound. It’s ancestors, the mastiffs, were first introduced to Switzerland by the invading Roman legions.
